Extreme Rainfall Frequency Analysis for Meteorological Sub-Division 4 of India Using L-Moments

ثبت نشده
چکیده

Extreme rainfall frequency analysis for Meteorological Sub-Division 4 of India was analyzed using Lmoments approach. Serial Correlation and Mann Kendall tests were conducted for checking serially independent and stationarity of the observations. The discordancy measure for the sites was conducted to detect the discordant sites. The regional homogeneity was tested by comparing with 500 generated homogeneous regions using a 4 parameter Kappa distribution. The best fit distribution was selected based on Z statistics and L-moments ratio diagram from the five extreme value distributions GPD, GLO, GEV, P3 and LP3. The LN3 distribution was selected and regional rainfall frequency relationship was established using index-rainfall procedure. A regional mean rainfall relationship was developed using multiple linear regression with latitude and longitude of the sites as variables. Keywords—L-moments, Z statistics, Serial correlation, Mann Kendall test.

Analysis of Meteorological Drought Using Standardized Precipitation Index – A Case Study of Puruliya District, West Bengal, India

Drought is universally acknowledged as a phenomenon associated with scarcity of water. The Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) expresses the actual rainfall as standardized departure from rainfall probability distribution function. In this study severity and spatial pattern of meteorological drought was analyzed in the Puruliya District, West Bengal, India using multi-temporal SPI. Daily gri...

Frequency Analysis of Maximum Daily Rainfall in various Climates of Iran

In this research in order to frequency analysis of maximum daily rainfall in various climates of Iran the data of 40 synoptic rain gauges collected in 40 years period i.e., 1973 to 2012 were used. These stations are located in various climates of Iran according to De Martonne climatic classification. At first, input of data to HYFA package was performed. The mentioned package includes seven...

The El Nino-Southern Oscillation and winter precipitation extremes over India

Daily rainfall data for the winter season October–December for the long period of 102 years 1901–2002 over southeast peninsular India have been used to study the characteristics of daily precipitation extremes. The frequency and intensity of extreme precipitation events do not show statistically significant long-term trend. The relationship of El Nino-southern oscillation index with these extre...

L-moments based assessment of a mixture model for frequency analysis of rainfall extremes

In the framework of the regional analysis of hydrological extreme events, a probabilistic mixture model, given by a convex combination of two Gumbel distributions, is proposed for rainfall extremes modelling. The papers concerns with statistical methodology for parameter estimation. With this aim, theoretical expressions of the L-moments of the mixture model are here defined. The expressions ha...

The omega blocking condition and extreme rainfall in Northwestern Iran during 25 - 28 October 2008

Heavy precipitation plays a significant role in arid and semi-arid regions of Iran. In order to understand the effect of blocking high system on rainfalls in northwest Iran during 25 - 28 October 2008, meteorological conditions including pressure, wind fields and temperature at multiple levels of the atmosphere were analyzed. Sea level pressure, the 1000-500 hPa thickness, perceptible water, re...
